Born as a subsidiary of a Leeds night, the festival moved to Tisno in 2020 and is known for stages in tunnels, a moat and boat parties.

For many British bass music fans, the end of summer means a trip to the Adriatic. Outlook Festival is one of the events that made that journey part of the calendar, and its setting is as much a part of its reputation as its line up.
Wikipedia describes Outlook as a musical event that started as a subsidiary of the Leeds event SubDub, hosting all kinds of bass music. It was held just outside the city of Pula, Croatia, and relocated to Tisno, Croatia, in 2020. Although the festival is in Croatia, many of its attendees come from the United Kingdom, as does much of the team that organises it, and there is a large global following.
The festival was previously held at Fort Punta Christo and on the surrounding beaches, and it is described as unique in its setting, with sound systems and stages set up in tunnels and even in the moat of the abandoned ruins. That arrangement is unusual: the stone walls shape the sound, and the fort gives each stage its own character.
The festival also hosts boat parties, which feature artists from the festival and sail around the Adriatic coastline, with more individual selections than other stages. For many visitors, these are the moments they remember.
The 2011 edition saw capacity almost double and introduced a number of new stages. Wikipedia notes that this led to mixed reviews from attendees of the previous festival, some of whom preferred the more intimate setting, while the larger audience allowed the organisers to book bigger names.
That tension between intimacy and scale is common in festivals. A larger audience can pay for a better line up and better production, but it changes the feel of the event.
Drum and bass is one of several sounds in the bass music family that Outlook has hosted, alongside dubstep and others. Its presence in a festival with this reputation helps explain how the scene has spread across Europe, with fans making the festival season part of their year.
If you are thinking of going to a festival abroad, plan early, check travel and entry rules, and book accommodation well in advance. Keep an eye on the festival's official announcements for line ups and dates, and bring ear protection, since days in the sun on a loud system are tiring.
